University Recreation Offering Virtual Group Fitness and Personal Training Sessions
While many Arkansans are working from home and practicing social distancing amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, physical activity can become an afterthought. University Recreation has shifted to online instruction to help keep the UARK community active and engaged.
University Recreation is hosting live group fitness classes on Zoom taught by certified instructors. "As a fitness instructor, I'm reminded that I'm not just there to increase physical health at a time like this, but also mental health," said Toby Klein. "Working out live with my participants gives me a really special way to connect with them, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity."
Classes are held Monday through Friday and are available to everyone at no cost. For the weekly schedule and instructions on how to join the class, please visit the group fitness class schedule webpage or download our app (available on android and iPhone) by searching urecarkansas.
"It is sometimes difficult to feel motivated to get a workout in at home, but the UREC Zoom classes have been the best alternative during these times," said Jackie Micheletto, assistant director for financial affairs. "You do not have to worry about not having the proper equipment as the instructors show you how to incorporate basic household items during your workout or how to use your own body weight. These classes are a useful way to keep me engaged, stay on track with my fitness goals, and give me the accountability I need when it comes to working out," said Micheletto.
In addition to group fitness classes, UREC is now offering online personal training. Like in person training sessions, clients will receive workouts from a certified personal trainer that are tailored to their goals and fitness levels. Clients will be able to check in with their trainer to assure that they are progressing. Cost, registration details, and more information can be found on the personal training webpage.
