John English, dean of the College of Engineering, has been elected to serve on the executive board of directors of the Engineering Dean's Council. The council is part of the American Society of Engineering Education.

The Engineering Dean's Council includes more than 90 percent of U.S. engineering deans. The group is dedicated to advancing engineering education and research.

English will serve a two-year term as a director, where he'll be responsible for helping the organization achieve its objectives related to engineering education, research and engagement.

English, who became dean of the University of Arkansas College of Engineering in 2013, said he was honored by the opportunity to advance the field.

"Serving on the Engineering Dean's Council board is an excellent opportunity to thinking about the big picture of engineering education in our country," he said. "Equipping the next generation of engineers and computer scientists for success is critical to our future as a nation, and I'm thrilled to work alongside so many talented leaders to make it happen."

The council is chaired by Gilda Barabino, dean and professor of biomedical engineering at the City College of New York. Barabino said joining the board is an opportunity to make a broad impact.

"The Engineering Deans Council serves as a platform for engineering deans across the country to provide leadership and advocate for engineering education," she said. "Election to the Council's board of directors by fellow deans provides a particular opportunity to contribute to the advancement of engineering education, research and engagement with stakeholders. I look forward to working with Dean English to help shape engineering's future."
