School of Law Joins ABA Celebration of 100 Years of Women's Right to Vote

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Law Library of Congress has sponsored an award-winning traveling exhibit to celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment. The University of Arkansas School of Law will host "100 Years After the 19th Amendment: Their Legacy, and Our Future" Jan. 27-30 in the Robert and Vivian Young Law Library.

The six-banner free-standing display features historic photos and artifacts, details the story of the battle for ratification and outlines remaining challenges. University students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public, are invited to view the exhibit and learn more about this milestone of democracy during the following hours:

• Monday, Jan. 27, noon-10 p.m.
• Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
• Wednesday, Jan. 29, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
• Thursday, Jan. 30, 7 a.m.-noon 

"We hope the campus and community will take advantage of this rare opportunity," said Margaret Sova McCabe, dean of the School of Law. "Women's suffrage is an important and all too recent part of history. As this exhibit travels the nation, it helps all of us better understand the significance of the 19th Amendment in our history."

With this exhibit, and other events throughout the year, the ABA seeks to give state and local bar associations, lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, educators and civic organizations the opportunity to celebrate 100 years of women's constitutional right to vote, to educate the public about the 19th Amendment and the battle for women's suffrage, and to promote law that ensures women's full and equal exercise of their right to vote and to participate in our democracy.

The exhibit, which won a 2019 GDUSA American Graphic Design Award, has been to more than 20 locations since its launch in August 2019, and has more than 70 additional stops scheduled before the end of 2020. From the law school, it will travel to Little Rock. It will be on view at the University of Arkansas Little Rock Bowen School of Law Jan. 31-Feb. 5 and at the Arkansas Bar Association Mid-Year meeting Feb. 6-7.
