Talent Search to Hold ACT Success Academy Saturday

Talent Search, a federally-funded "TRIO" program, will host an ACT Success Academy for registered high school participants from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Don Tyson Center at the Agricultural Experimental Farm two miles north of the main campus of the University fo Arkansas.

Students will receive personalized instruction from Jim Giovanni, one of the nation's leading ACT authors. Attendees will be guided in navigating the test structure, learn common types of questions, review helpful formulas and rules, participate in drills, and review practical strategies for maximizing their scores at the Dec. 14 exam.

Talent Search is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program provides a full spectrum of services to students from disadvantaged backgrounds that have the potential to succeed in higher education. The University of Arkansas has three Talent Search grants which serve 37 target schools. Talent Search is committed to assisting students in overcoming barriers to higher education. Providing services that allow students to successfully perform on the ACT ensures their ability to enter college and be competitive for scholarship opportunities. For the past two reporting periods, the programs have averaged a college going rate of 85% and 6-year post secondary graduation rate of 65%.

Talent Search is within the Division of Student Affairs. The University of Arkansas Division of Student Affairs engages students to develop their strengths and inspires leadership for a global society. It enhance students learning through effective programs and services.

The faculty members successfully completed the Teaching Portfolio and will be recognized at the Fall Teaching Awards ceremony hosted by the Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center and the Teaching Academy.
