UA Jazz Jam Relaunches at Fenix Gallery
The University of Arkansas Department of Music relaunches the UA Jazz Jam Sessions starting Wednesday, Sept. 11. This fall the sessions move to the Fenix Gallery in Fayetteville as part of the new jazz offerings at University of Arkansas. These concerts and community jam sessions are open to musicians of all levels and ages, and jazz fans of all kinds.
UA Jazz Area Coordinator and guitarist Jake Hertzog and his bandmates Chris Teal and Drew Packard first began the UA Jazz Jam Sessions at Stage 18 in September 2017. The group hosted Jam Sessions every month until Stage 18 closed its doors earlier this year.
"It's so exciting to relaunch the Jam Sessions" says Hertzog, "the jam session was the original jazz education program, and providing our students and community members a forum to perform and practice their craft is an important aspect of our jazz education initiatives both at U of A and in the region. We are so grateful to the Fenix Gallery and their team for working with us to host more jazz in NWA."
The new UA Jazz Jam Sessions are open to the public, all ages and there is a $5 cover.
They will be hosted on Wednesdays by the Jake Hertzog Trio featuring Garrett Jones on bass and Chris Teal on Drums, the fall dates are:
- Sept. 11, 8-11 p.m.
- Oct. 9, 8-11 p.m.
- Nov. 13, 8-11 p.m.
- Dec. 11, 8-11 p.m.
The Fenix Gallery is located on the Fayetteville downtown square at: 16 W. Center Street, Fayetteville.
