A Night of Afro-Cuban and Caribbean Music at Live at the Five & Dime

The second season of the "Live at the Five & Dime" outdoor concert series continues on Wednesday, Aug. 28, with an evening of Afro-Cuban and Carribean songs, featuring Catalina Ortega (flute), Andrew Thompson (guitar), and Fernando Valencia (percussion).  Concerts are free and take place every Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. outside the Walmart Museum on the Bentonville square.

"Live at the Five & Dime" features 25 concerts from April 24 to Oct. 9. The concerts are a collaboration between the University of Arkansas Department of Music, the Walmart Museum, and Downtown Bentonville Inc. The performances feature faculty, students and other artists connected to the Department of Music at the University of Arkansas, and overlap partly with the Wednesday Farmer's Market on the Bentonville Square.

Sept. 4 – FerMambo Valencia Latin Jazz Quintet: Darren Novotny (timbales), Jordan Strickland (piano), Matt Beach (trombone), Garrett Jones (bass), Fernando Valencia (tumbadoras, director)

Septe. 11 – Block Street Hot Club Jazz Trio with Felipe Antonio (guitar), Rick Salonen (saxophone) and Van Powell (bass)

Sept. 25 – 5-10 Blues Train Men: Asher Perkins, Julius Kwanza, and Jacob Skinner

Oct. 2 – University of Arkansas Songwriter's Workshop, directed by Jake Hertzog

Oct. 9 – University of Arkansas World Music Ensemble, directed by Nikola Radan
