Civil Engineering Professor Appointed to National Governing Board
A civil engineering faculty member has been appointed to a national board dedicated to advancing the field of engineering mechanics.
R. Paneer Selvam, university professor of civil engineering, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the Engineering Mechanics Institute, which is part of the American Society of Civil Engineers. His term will begin Oct. 12.
Selvam holds the James T. Womble Endowed Professorship in Computational Mechanics and Nanotechnology Modelling in the Department of Civil Engineering.
The EMI Board of Governors provides leadership and guidance to the Engineering Mechanics Institute in its mission to serve the engineering community through the development and application of engineering mechanics. The group provides strategic directions, oversees EMI's operations, and promotes its growth and development to meet the needs of the engineering mechanics community.
Selvam's research focuses on tornado and hurricane forces on buildings, inflow turbulence effect on building forces, computational wind engineering, computational mechanics, solar thermal energy storage in concrete, computational fluid dynamics and multiphase flow modeling and thermal management for electronics.
