Box is a powerful cloud storage and collaboration tool available to all.

Now that the semester has started, IT Services wants to remind students, faculty and staff that Box is a powerful cloud storage and collaboration tool available to all. Box users can upload, download, share and edit files via the web and mobile devices.

To get started, log into box.uark.edu with a UARK account. A get started video is available to review features.

Sharing and Collaborating

The power of Box stems from its collaboration features.

Sharing with individuals:

  • Scenario: I need my professor to download my presentation. I also want to track that he or she has downloaded and viewed the file.

  • Solution: Shared links allow you to quickly share a document or file for a one-time task. Depending on the permissions selected, the recipient may not need a Box account to access a shared link.

Sharing with a group:

  • Scenario: I'm working with students on a big project and I'll need them to edit, delete, upload files, and leave me feedback inside a folder.

  • Solution: By inviting collaborators to join a folder, a group can revise one file together, rather than creating multiple versions. This option is best for long-term or complex projects.

There are seven permission levels, and each collaborator needs to have a Box account. For example:

  • Viewers have read access to the files in a folder. They can preview, download, make comments and generate shared links.

  • Editors have full read and write access. They can edit and add documents, assign tasks, create tags, leave feedback, invite collaborators, etc.
