More than 30,000 people commute to and from University of Arkansans campus on a daily basis. People make these trips using a wide variety of travel modes including walking, cars, bikes, buses and shuttle vans. A new survey, initiated by the U of A Office for Sustainability with support from U of A Parking and Transit, will measure how people get to and from campus. The goal of this survey is to and collect information to measure the environmental impact of transportation and to better inform future infrastructure and policy decisions.

The survey is designed to take about 3 minutes to complete. Faculty, staff, students and visitors are all invited to participate in the survey and enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card, sponsored by the  Office for Sustainability.

It's been more than 5 years since the University of Arkansas has completed a similar transportation mode share survey. The university's 2015 Campus Transportation Plan detailed the results of this survey conducted in 2014. The plan reported  that, among students, 51% drove, 21% rode a bus, 20% walked, 3% carpooled, 3% rode a scooter or motorcycle and 2% rode a bike. The same study showed that, among faculty and staff, 83% drove, 5% walked, 4% carpooled, 4% rode a bus, 3% rode a bike and 1% rode a motorcycle.

Much has changed in the years since the last survey. Improvements to transit, the launch of the VeoRide bike share program and construction of new facilities, parking and transportation infrastructure can all impact the transportation choices of campus affiliates.

The data gathered from this survey will be made available on the Office for Sustainability website following the conclusion of the survey later this summer.
