Barney Selected for National Housing Development Training
Hannah Barney was selected for the National Housing Training Institute, offered through the Association of College and University Housing-International. Barney is a coordinator for residence education with University Housing.
Barney will join a handful of other professionals from around the country for an intensive four-day workshop for professionals committed to advancement within the field of campus housing.
Each year, individuals with three- to seven-years of full-time housing experience are invited to apply. This year's group will focus on competency areas including assessment and planning, budget management, crisis management, facilities, human resources, inclusion and cultural competency, leadership, master planning, occupancy management, and politics and current issues.
The workshop will take place on the campus of Texas Christian University June 3-6.
Barney has worked for University Housing for the past three years serving in both administrative and educational roles. Her work has contributed significantly to Greek housing, Pomfret Hall, and now with student leadership programs. Barney's participation in NHTI will continue to grow her knowledge in various aspects of housing as she seeks to advance in the field.
EmmaLe Davis, director of student assessment, was the last University of Arkansas housing professional to be accepted into the institute.
Summarizing her experience, Davis said, "this was one of the best professional development experiences I have ever had. It was transformative in ways I could not imagine, helping me to develop as a professional."
The James C. Grimm National Housing Training Institute has a rich history. Beginning in 1991, NHTI was designed to be an intense professional development opportunity for those with experience in the housing field looking to continue their career in housing.
The institute recognizes the importance of the evolving housing and residence life profession, and it strives to provide participants with the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in the ever-changing field.
To date, over 750 professionals have attended the institute and benefited from the opportunity to meet and interact with other colleagues as well as to create an individualized professional development plan.
As the field of college and university housing evolves, NHTI provides housing professionals with the necessary skills and competencies to meet the current and future demands of the profession.
