Professionals Can Learn to Use Emotional Intelligence to Strengthen Workplace Communication

Professionals can learn how to harness emotional intelligence to improve their workplace interactions and communication during a one-day training class in May.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in the Workplace is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 3 at the University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers. Participants can register online, and the cost is $299. University of Arkansas faculty, staff and current students receive a 10 percent discount.

Emotional intelligence, also referred to as emotional quotient or EQ, is the ability to be aware of emotions in the workplace and to respond in judicious and empathetic ways. Emotional intelligence improves professional communications and relationships, which enriches workplace culture and increases productivity.

Participants will learn how to identify emotions in themselves and others in the workplace and develop effective responses when interacting, collaborating and resolving conflict.

David Miller, president of Life Incorporated Enterprises, will teach an overview about common personality and behavioral assessments, as well as how to use assessments to build emotional intelligence and gain an understanding of company culture.

Participants will complete a DISC assessment, which helps people understand where they stand on factors of dominance, influence, steadiness and compliance. The assessment can be used to predict a person's behavior toward others, whether that person is the assessment taker, a supervisor or a member of a team.

Those seeking recertification hours from the Society for Human Resource Management can earn 5.5 recertification credits by successfully completing this class.
