University Recreation to Host Self-Defense Seminar

University Recreation will offer a self-defense seminar at no cost from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in HPER room 220.

This drop-in seminar will incorporate self-defense methods that include hand-to-hand combat techniques developed by the Israeli Military led by instructor, Cole Saugey. The 90-minute class will cover self-defense against a wide array of attacks such as chokes, bear hugs, wrist grabs, and headlocks.

"A little self-defense training goes a long way. Our goal is to teach students how to strike vitals so they may create windows of opportunity to escape violent situations," said Cole Saugey. Saugey will also teach strikes, kicks, and evasive moves. No experience or prior training is required for participants.

Saugey is the owner/instructor at Fayetteville Krav Maga | Self Defense and has been training in the combat system for nine years. He has trained directly with Israeli Defense Force instructors out of Tel Aviv, Israel and currently holds the rank of Expert Instructor through the Krav Maga Association.

This event is open to students, UA faculty/staff, and active Arkansas Alumni Association members who have a UREC Membership. For more information about this event or any other UREC programs, please contact Becky Todd at 575-3276 or rdahl@uark.edu.
