5 Reasons to Study Abroad in Germany

Nestled in the heart of the Europe, Germany boasts a long and rich cultural history. Germany has been called "the land of poets and thinkers" and is one of the top destinations for study abroad.

Program options are available for students from all majors. Additional funding is available for study abroad. Most semester scholarships and financial aid may be used toward study abroad.

1. Land of 20,000 Castles

Castle Neuschwanstein, which served as a model for the Disney World castle, is found in Bavaria.

2. Albert Einstein Recommends It

Albert Einstein recommended the Technical University of Darmstadt to his nephew in 1921. Darmstadt is home to the European Space Agency and more than 30 research agencies. Students can take engineering classes taught in German alongside native speakers.

3. International Internships

U of A students have interned with BMW to study the automotive industry, a start-up in Berlin to work in marketing, an architectural firm in Leipzig to study design, and a medieval hotel to study hospitality — just to name a few.

4. Local Flavor

With plenty of traditional dishes such as sauerbraten or bratwurst you can experience a multitude of flavors while in Germany. If you don't want to count carbs, check out the Konditorei (a special kind of store that sells only desserts). The Chocolate Museum in Cologne is another must-visit. The museum gives free samples, lets you design candy bars and has its own mini-rain forest.

5. Outdoor Haven

Over one-third of Germany is covered in forests and woodlands. You can also experience the beaches in the north or go skiing in the south.
