Join Pat Walker Health Center staff and members of the University of Arkansas community for a joyous building celebration of the health center's new addition and renovated medical clinics and counseling center.

Last year, the health center began work on a 20,000-square-foot addition and renovation that further extends the reach of the health center and the impact it has on the campus community.

To commemorate this monumental achievement, the health center is hosting a building celebration at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in the North Atrium. All members of the community are invited to attend.

The program will include remarks from Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz, as well as health center and Student Affairs leadership. Following the program, attendees can tour the new facility and spaces, and enjoy light refreshments.

The celebration will also be broadcasted live on the Division of Student Affairs Facebook page.

Increased Efficiencies and Welcoming Environment

When Pat Walker Health Center first opened its doors in 2004, leadership knew an expansion would one day be needed to accommodate the growing university population. In 2015, the University of Arkansas approved the expansion and renovation project.

Now completed, the health center features:

  • Three new, high-tech academic classrooms that open up into a large multi-purpose space.
  • Efficient access to all medical services – the Women's Clinic is now located on the first floor of the new addition, while the health center's other medical clinics completed their renovations last Fall.
  • Larger dedicated space for Wellness & Health Promotion and Administrative Services.
  • A completely renovated counseling center with a larger waiting area, additional office space, group therapy rooms and a large multi-purpose classroom.
  • Several new student study areas.
  • A grand, inviting entrance.

The health center was first established in 1875 by members of the Fayetteville community to isolate communicable disease. As control of communicable diseases became safer, the health center expanded from medical care to also include mental health care and wellness and health promotion.

With more than 50 percent of the student population using health center services and programs, the facility now strengthens its impact with comprehensive and efficient access to services and programs designed to help students stay healthy and maximize their academic potential.
