First snow of the semester.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Monday’s snow is a reminder that wintery weather can happen in the fall – and that you should be ready to get weather alert messages before the next snow falls.

The U of A is always the first to alert the community anytime the weather affects classes or normal operations. These first alerts are sent by text, email and phone to everyone in the campus community – if you sign up to get them.

These weather alert messages are the fastest way for you to find out if classes are delayed or cancelled and if offices opening late or closed for the day.

To receive those campus weather alerts, you have to opt into the system and provide your contact information and delivery preferences. You also have to give the system permission to send an alert through text message.

The text message is fastest — you’ll get the word before social media or the news media — which is a good reason to sign up.

Students can opt in through their UAConnect accounts. Faculty and staff can sign up through webBASIS. Both UAConnect and webBASIS can be reached either directly or through the U of A’s safety website. Opting in only takes a minute.

The U of A also posts inclement weather information on its social media channels, its homepage, makes updates the Weather Information Hotline at 479-575-7000, and posts a recorded message on the U of A switchboard at 479-575-2000.
