Presentation on Assistive Technology and Accommodations in the Workplace on Oct. 24

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance invites the campus community to attend an Assistive Technology and Accommodations in the Workplace Presentation to raise awareness for National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October.

The presentations will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24. There will be two sessions: 9-10:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. at the University House. An interactive demonstration of equipment will follow the presentations.

The Assistive Technology and Accommodations in the Workplace Presentation will cover programs in Arkansas that can assist employees with accommodations in the workplace. We will also cover the accommodation process, and go through case studies displaying how specific accommodations implemented in specific situations can reduce or eliminate barriers to employment and promote successful outcomes not only for the employee but also for the employer. Resources will also be provided.  The presenters are Brad Marsh and Nathan Winters from Arkansas Rehabilitation Services.

Brad Marsh, ATP, CEAS II. Marsh has more than 20 years of experience providing a broad range of assistive technology services to individuals with cross disabilities in their homes, schools and work environments. Work experiences include coordination of several assistive technology demonstration centers that provided comprehensive information, demonstration, and technical assistance to individuals with significant disabilities, family members, rehabilitation professionals, educators, and therapists. He served as coordinator of assistive technology services for the Missouri AgrAbility Project, a grant funded program serving farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who had disabilities of all types. He served as a rehabilitation technology specialist with Louisiana Tech University’s Center for Rehabilitation Engineering, Science and Technology and provided assessments for home, worksite, and computer access in Northwest Louisiana. He started working for Arkansas Rehabilitation Services as a rehab program coordinator in January 2016.

Nathan Winter, MS OTR/L, ATP, CEAS. Winter assumed the position of associate commissioner of access and accommodations within Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in May 2017. He has a dedication to seeing people with disabilities achieve their vocational goals and has worked diligently with various agencies and businesses to figure out ways to best accommodate individuals to attain or maintain competitive integrated employment. He received his Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of Central Arkansas, a bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation, and Hospitality Administration from Arkansas Tech University, is an assistive technology professional through the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America and is a certified ergonomic assessment specialist. Before assuming his new role Nathan has been responsible for developing programs and performing individual evaluations that promote clients’ needs for accommodations to remain or attain success in the workplace, or with their education, through Arkansas Rehabilitation Services AT@Work and SAW/RTW programs.
