Human Resources Staff Members Earn Professional Certifications

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sixteen staff members from University of Arkansas Resources have earned professional certification in a variety of areas.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification is a competency-based achievement which demonstrates an individual’s expertise in the Human Resources field. Areas of expertise for SHRM certification include leadership, interpersonal, and business behavior competencies, and knowledge of the people, organization, and workplace domains. Individuals can become either SHRM-CP certified or SCP certified. SHRM-CP are certified professionals, whereas SHRM-SCP are senior certified professionals. HR Certification Institute (HRCI) certification is a competency-based achievement which also demonstrates an individual’s expertise in the Human Resources field. Topics of expertise for HRCI certification include: workforce planning and employment; employee and labor relations; compensation and benefits; human resource development; business management and strategy; and risk management. HRCI offers an array of certifications based on level of experience and knowledge. More information regarding HRCI certification can be found at www.hrci.org

American Payroll Association (APA) certification demonstrates expertise and experience in the payroll field. Understanding extensive coursework in the payroll field is necessary for achieving a FPC certification, while CPP requires understanding and mastering further coursework as well as three years or more in the payroll field. Increasing knowledge in payroll, processing, laws, and regulations helps reduce costs and helps to ensure compliance.
