U of A Celebration of Arbor Day Today
Join the Office for Sustainability today at the Union Mall to celebrate National Arbor Day.
Established in 1872, Arbor Day is the United State's national tree-planting festival. To celebrate, the Office for Sustainability is planting three trees and several shrubs at their on-campus location, the Sustainability House on Harmon Avenue. Before planting, however, the OFS is bringing these saplings and shrubs to the Union Mall for a photo-shoot. Students, staff and community members are invited to come take a picture with these new additions to our campus. A chalkboard backdrop and props will be provided. The celebration will also feature a raffle for an Arbor Day themed prize.
Trees are not only beautiful, but serve many important ecological functions, such as preventing soil loss, regulating temperature, and producing oxygen. They are also vital parts of the habitat of many creatures such as birds, squirrels and pollinators. The OFS and UofA are excited to celebrate Arbor Day as part of our commitment to being both a certified Bee Campus and Tree Campus.
