Join the Electrochemical Society student chapter, along with the Materials Research Society, IEEE Power Electronics Society, and American Chemical Society, for a seminar at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in Bell Engineering 2282.  Mujeeb Ijaz, an expert in electric vehicle battery technologies, will be our honored guest speaker. Food and drink will be provided.

Since the mid-1800s, energy, population growth, and forms of transportation have been increasingly interdependent. Mujeeb Ijaz, an expert in electric vehicle battery technologies, will present an overview of where America has been and pose the question: "Where are we headed over the next three decades?"

As Arkansas has a surfeit of people with unique expertise related to energy storage and transportation from a commercial and industrial perspective as well as a scientific one, Mujeeb Ijaz's visit is a rare opportunity for UofA students to interact with someone working on this cutting-edge field.

Mujeeb Ijaz was chief technology officer of A123 based in southeast Michigan where he founded A123's automotive lithium-ion battery business in 2008 launching batteries for GM, Mercedes, Volvo, BMW, Fisker, and other global OEMs over a 6 year period. Prior to A123, Mujeeb worked in Ford Motor Company's electric vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell projects over a 16 year period where he led Ford's entry into lithium-ion technology while doing some fun things like setting a land speed record with a Ford Fusion hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle in 2006. Mujeeb has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and holds 27 U.S. patents on energy storage related technologies.
