UREC Outdoors to Explore Costa Rica During Spring Break

UREC Outdoors to Explore Costa Rica During Spring Break
Outward Bound Costa Rica

UREC Outdoors has extended its program offerings to include a unique opportunity for international travel. UREC Outdoors will offer a trip to Costa Rica from March 17-25 full of adventure and cultural immersion. The cost to attend is $1,850 for University of Arkansas students and $1,950 for UREC members. The registration deadline for this trip is Feb. 15.

Participants will explore the Costa Rican countryside from beach to mountain top and experience whitewater rafting on one of the world's top-rated rivers, the Pacuare. This river runs through some of the most scenic areas in Costa Rica and is home to an impressive amount of wildlife.

Participants will also backpack through one of the largest coffee growing areas in the country, as well as interact with local families during home-stays. This portion of the trip will take participants through pristine rainforests and rivers, and yes, coffee will be available the entire time.

No spring break trip to Costa Rica would be complete without a stay at the beach at Manuel Antonio National Park. Participants will be able to relax and also have the opportunity to learn how to surf.

Ryan Clark, a UREC Outdoors staff member, went on this trip a few years ago and will co-lead the trip in March.

"The glamour of the activities this trip has to offer is great, but what stuck out the most for me was the homestay experience," said Clark.

"Seeing native families in their daily routine and learning from them was an amazing experience."

Program costs include transportation while in Costa Rica, homestays and accommodations, food (three meals per day and snacks), entrance fees, outdoor equipment rentals, and professional guides for some activities.
