FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Charles Rosenkrans, professor and graduate program coordinator in the U of A's Department of Animal Science, has been named director of the honors program for the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Lona Robertson, interim dean of the college, made the announcement while also naming Rosenkrans a Dean's Fellow.

The college's honors program is aimed at providing undergraduate students with opportunities for experience in completing creative research projects leading to uncovering discoveries in close association with expert faculty members.

"I am very grateful to be granted the opportunity to serve as a Dean's Fellow and director of the Bumpers Honors Program," said Rosenkrans. "It has been my privilege to mentor many honors students, and as director I hope to expand the breadth of opportunities for our students."

Bumpers College honors students work with faculty mentors to select research and creative projects; enroll in specialized honors courses taught by outstanding faculty and instructors; have opportunities to receive stipends for project and study abroad support; have opportunities to publish and present research results at scientific or professional meetings; receive advanced course pre-enrollment; may receive housing in the U of A's honors quarters; and receive special recognition at Bumpers College's commencement ceremony.

Rosenkrans also oversees the college's Honors Student Board, which represents the program and college to prospective students, parents and alumni; and the college's Honors Mentor Program, which pairs upperclassmen mentors with freshmen to assist in transitioning to college.

Rosenkrans earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from the University of Missouri. He earned his doctorate in animal science–reproductive physiology from Kansas State University. Rosenkrans was named a Wesley Fellow at KSU and worked as a research associate at the University of Wisconsin.

He received the U of A Alumni Society Outstanding Advising Award in 1998, was inducted into the U of A Teaching Academy in 2000, was named a Wakonse Fellow in 2002 and served as co-director of the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center from 2007-10. Rosenkrans earned the Outstanding Teacher Award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture and the U of A's John W. White Teaching Award in 2010, and the U of A's Jack G. Justus Endowment for Teaching Excellence and Honors College Distinguished Faculty awards in 2013.

As a Dean's Fellow, he teachers honors program classes and involves honors students in his areas of research.
