Campus Student-Operated Freight Farm Makes Farm-to-Table a Short Trip

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The U of A freight farm sits in the heart of the Northwest Quad residence area, quietly growing heads of lettuce under pink and purple lights in a freight container. More than 12,700 heads of lettuce have been harvested by the two student workers who run it, feeding a community of more than 30,000 students, faculty and staff at dining facilities across campus. For the students, it’s a living lesson in sustainability, hydroponics and the importance of local produce. For campus, farm to table never had a shorter commute.
