FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas United Way campaign has raised $23,556 in its first active week of fundraising, and that total is changing on an almost hourly basis, as online donations and deposits from individual donor cards are tallied. The most current total can be found at https://unitedway.uark.edu/ -- the same place you can go to make a donation, or show that you are participating in another way.

“This is a good start, and we want to thank everyone who made their contributions early,” said Stacy Leeds, co-chair of the campaign.

“Our goal is to raise $160,000 to help the children who are living in poverty in Northwest Arkansas – and we only have three weeks left in the campaign,” said co-chair Chris McCoy. “Obviously, we still have a long way to go. But, as our theme says, United We Win.”

Everyone who participated in the first week was eligible for a drawing to win a Play Station Gold stereo headset. The winner was Christopher Shields, clinical assistant professor of sociology.

“We have three more weekly door prize drawings to go, and we have had very impressive prizes donated for the campaign,” said Jacque Linebarger, campus coordinator for the campaign. “Everyone who turns in a donor card, or responds online, is eligible to win prizes like a UREC membership, a basket from Chartwells, t-shirts, walkie talkies – and the final, grand prize is a Dell laptop.”

The U of A United Way campaign ends on Friday, Oct. 27.
