Open Forums for Chief Information Security Officer Candidates Starting June 19

After a nationwide search, three candidates have been invited to campus to interview for the position of chief information security officer (CISO). Information is among the university's most valuable assets. The security of that information, and the technologies and systems that support it, is crucial to the mission of the university.

Each CISO candidate will have the opportunity to present to the campus during an open forum as part of the interview process. Forums are scheduled during the third week of June in the Old Main Giffels Auditorium:

  • Monday, June 19, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, June 20, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 22, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Members of the university community are encouraged to attend. For questions about the forums, contact the Office of the CIO at cio@uark.edu.

The CISO will be responsible for developing the university information security policy and strategy and draws on domain expertise, a capacity for vision and change management and communication skills to establish a high level of understanding of and attention to information security in a world-class institution of teaching, learning and research.

The CISO will develop and lead outreach, communication and education efforts to raise campus-wide awareness of information security risk, requirements and solutions; provide strategic and technical guidance and assistance in the design and implementation of appropriate security processes for campus-wide information systems; direct the university's IT risk assessment process; recommend and monitor computing practices to prevent and recover from security breaches and handle breaches when they occur with the appropriate sense of urgency.
