Colleen Whitman has been named employee of the third quarter by the University of Arkansas Global Campus.

Whitman is the assistant to the director of recruitment for online programs at the Global Campus. She works with prospective online students and online program coordinators, providing answers and assistance with the application process.

"I want to express my gratitude for being recognized as Employee of the Quarter from the Global Campus," Whitman said. "It's a great day when we can assist our students, but I am only here because of the help I've received over the years from the community at Global Campus."

Donald Judges, interim vice provost for distance education, presented the award to Whitman at a recent staff meeting and recognized her work to keep the recruitment team on track while onboarding new recruiters, including the new director of recruitment and student outreach for online programs, Patricia Milner.

"Sometimes what we don't hear is as important as what we do," Judges said. "While our recruitment team was short-handed, Colleen helped to keep its operations running smoothly with a minimum of disruption and no complaints. We appreciate her efforts."

During the onboarding of new recruitment team members, Whitman demonstrated a deep commitment to prospective students and the goals of the Global Campus by keeping the recruitment office running.  She took on significant additional duties during the transition and trained and supported new team members, while continuing to carry out her routine duties.

Whitman managed student inquiries and communicated with online program coordinators in colleges across campus in the absence of a recruitment director. She maintained a positive image of the Global Campus and the U of A.

Whitman began her career in 2002 as a records manager for self-paced courses at the Global Campus.  Since then, she has worked with the media services, credit studies, and compliance and quality assurance teams.

Whitman earned her master's degree in workforce development in 2011 and her bachelor's degree in English from the U of A.

The Global Campus awards the employee of the quarter honor to recognize outstanding achievement and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The other third-quarter nominees were Caroline Chandler and Jessica Shabatura.

The award winner receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award.
