New Highs in Voter Turnout for 2017 ASG General Election

During the 2017 Associated Student Government general election, over 5,800 students cast votes for candidates for ASG President, ASG Vice President, ASG Secretary, and ASG Treasurer. After final vote totals were calculated, Andrew Counce was elected president of the 2017-2018 Associated Student Government and Natalie Counce was elected vice president. Andrew is biology major in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and Natalie is a finance and accounting major in the Sam M. Walton College of Business. Andrew and Natalie are cousins and are both currently juniors.

In other executive elections, Ashton Yarbrough was elected ASG secretary and Macarena Arce was elected ASG treasurer. Yarbrough is currently a sophomore elementary education major in the College of Education and Health Professions. Arce is currently a junior international economics major in the Sam M. Walton College of Business. She is also an international student from Peru. Andrew Counce and Macarena Arce are also alumni of ASG's Freshman Leadership Forum program.

Legislative candidates were also elected as part of the 2017 ASG General Election. Candidates for Senate and the Graduate Student Congress were selected by college. Seats unfilled in the general election will be elected on an at-large basis at the beginning of the fall semester. Elected senators and Graduate Student Congress representatives for 2017-18 are:

At the March 14 ASG Senate meeting, the Senate body elected its executive, the chair of Senate. Colman Betler was elected by his peers in the Senate to serve as the chair of Senate in 2017-2018. Betler is currently a sophomore biochemistry major in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

All newly elected executive and legislative ASG leaders will be sworn in at the 2017 ASG Inauguration on Friday, May 5.
