Eight U of A Students to Be Selected to Attend Friedman Conference in Vermont

Eight University of Arkansas students will be selected to attend a three-day conference in Vermont to learn about and discuss the political and economic free-market principles advanced by Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman.

The conference will be held Aug. 8-10. The cost of attending the conference is covered by a grant, so it is free for the selected U of A students.

The conference, which is exclusive to the University of Arkansas students, will be held at CAPITAF, Friedman's former Vermont summer home which has been converted into a conference center. The center is managed by the Free-to-Choose-Network of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Friedman is recognized as a champion of free markets and individual rights and liberties. In 1976, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics. In 1977, he retired from the University of Chicago and became a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He is widely known for his landmark 1980 public television series "Free To Choose" and his best-selling book by the same title.

Students wishing to attend the conference should submit by March 15 an essay of 500 words or less along with two references to Wes Kemp, executive in residence in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the Sam M. Walton College of Business. The conference is open to all University of Arkansas students and is not limited to business students.
