Adams Selected to Attend '9-1-1 Goes to Washington'

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Stephanie Adams, emergency telecommunications specialist at the University of Arkansas Police Department, was one out of six 9-1-1 dispatchers in Arkansas selected by the state Department of Emergency Management to attend the National Emergency Number Association’s program “9-1-1 Goes to Washington.”

Adams, along with other 9-1-1 dispatchers from across the country will travel to the nation’s capital to participate in panel sessions regarding issues that face 9-1-1, learn about emerging technology in the emergency telephone system, as well as regulatory and legislative activities affecting 9-1-1 centers across the country. Adams will confer with members of Congress and federal policy creators to advocate regarding important 9-1-1 issues on the state and local level.

Adams began her career at the U of A in August 1999, working as a dispatcher for the Transit and Parking Department. In November 2003, she transferred to UAPD, where she has remained for the past 13 years. She earned a B.A. degree in history in 1997 from the U of A, while also earning an Army commission as a signal officer through the U of A Army ROTC program and subsequently serving with the Arkansas Army National Guard for six years.
