Throwback Thursday
When the university first opened, all male students were required to train in military arts. Each spring, the cadets paraded in uniform on the lawn of Old Main for Inspection Day. The National Defense Act of 1916 formally created a Reserve Officers' Training Corps, which replaced the cadet program. Today, the university has two ROTC programs, the Army ROTC and the Air Force ROTC, which continue to provide military training for students who want to one day be officers in the armed forces.
