Arkansas No. 1 in SEC for 2016 Fall Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Arkansas topped the Southeastern Conference with the largest number of student-athletes on the 2016 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll with a total of 91 Razorbacks representing five fall sports.

For the second-straight year, Arkansas posted the most football student-athletes of any SEC school on the fall honor roll. Arkansas' league-leading 39 is second only to its 2015 total of 40, which was the most by an SEC football program since Coach Bielema arrived at Arkansas in 2013. Arkansas now owns the top two fall academic honor roll performances by any SEC football program since 2013.

In addition, women's cross country also is atop the SEC placing the most student-athletes on the fall honor roll when compared to other women's cross country programs. The Razorback women's cross country program had 19 student-athletes on the list.

"Congratulations to our nearly 100 Razorback fall sport student-athletes who earned recognition from the SEC for their outstanding academic performance," said Jeff Long, vice chancellor and director of athletics. "For the second consecutive year, our football program leads the league in honor roll selections while our women's cross country team also ranks first within the SEC. These outstanding achievements combined with our recent ranking as the top SEC school in the final fall standings of the Directors' Cup, further demonstrate that Razorback student-athletes continue to set the bar academically and athletically in the nation's most competitive conference."

Arkansas featured 18 student-athletes from soccer on the academic honor roll while eight members of the volleyball team and seven members of the men's cross country team earned recognition.

The 2016 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball. It is based on grades from the 2016 spring, summer and fall terms.

Any student-athlete who participates in an SEC championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution's NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.

Eligible student-athletes also include those receiving an academic scholarship, athletics award and non-scholarship student-athletes on a varsity team for two seasons.

Student-athletes must meet the following criteria to be considered for inclusion in the honor roll: They must have a GPA of 3.00 or above, summer school GPA must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility and prior to being nominated, student-athletes must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a degree.
