Kathleen Maurer and Mei Zhong propose a presentation of the music of Asian and Western cultures in this informative and enjoyable recital. The recital will include new compositions by Eleanor Trawick and Jody Nagel, whose music was featured at the College Music Society National Conference in 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana by Maurer and Zhong.

The recital will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Recital selections include songs in Chinese that were written by Nagel as well as new duets that were written for Maurer and Zhong by Trawick. The music of Western cultures will feature works from Europe and America, and will cover a broad spectrum of representative music. In addition to the Chinese songs, the recital will feature works by Puccini from the opera, Madama Butterfly, which demonstrate a Western view of Japanese culture.

This recital program would benefit voice students by expanding their awareness of the music of China as sung by a native singer, as well as by exposing them to new music written by modern composers, and also to music of Western culture as sung by experienced professionals.
