Winter, 2014.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – There’s a chance of wintery weather in the forecast this week. If snow or ice develops, U of A officials – and the ASG president – will meet as early as possible to decide what action to take. Keep the normal schedule? Cancel classes and close offices? Delay opening until it’s safe to travel?

The university sends out inclement weather messages by text, email and voicemail if the weather causes a change to the normal schedule.

To receive those campus weather alerts, you must opt into the system and provide your contact information and delivery preferences. You also have to give the system permission to send an alert through text message.

The text message is fastest — you’ll get it faster than social media, faster than regular media — which is a good reason to sign up.

Students can opt in through their UAConnect accounts. Faculty and staff sign up through BASIS. Both UAConnect and BASIS can be reached either directly or through the U of A’s emergency website. Opting in only takes a minute.

The U of A also posts inclement weather information on its social media channels, the homepage, updates the Weather Information Hotline that can be reached at 479-575-7000, and posts a recorded message on the U of A switchboard, 479-575-2000.
