Four University of Arkansas students studying family and consumer science education – Taylor Swift, Bryanna Russell, Sara Wilson and Kendahl Hahan – along with their adviser Sheri Deaton, attended the District I FCCLA Leadership meeting Nov. 9 at the Farmington Performing Arts Center.
Students set up a display and assisted in distributing information, answering questions and recruiting for the Career and Technical Education Department. More than 300 students in grades 7-12 and advisers from Northwest Arkansas attended the leadership conference.
The U of A students distributed and collected interest survey cards that will be used to further the recruitment for the family and consumer science and career and technical education programs in the College of Education and Health Professions. The family and consumer science education degree program was recently ranked in the top 50 degrees by Great Value Colleges. The diverse program, pathway to licensure, and opportunities for teaching internships are a few of the pieces that separate this degree program above the rest, according to Deaton, who is a clinical instructor in the program.
