Crisis Communication Specialist Will Speak on Public Relations, Crisis Communication and Public Affairs
The Lemke Department of Journalism at the University of Arkansas invites students, faculty and staff to attend a professional presentation, "Public Relations, Crisis Communication and Public Affairs," from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in Kimpel Hall room105.
The goal of this event is to provide practical and valuable information to students interested in public relations, crisis management communication and issues management. This event is also one of the Harold Burson Summer Internship recruitment tours from Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations and communications firm headquartered in New York City.
John Kyte, managing director at Burson-Marsteller, is a global crisis communication specialist. He will discuss his extensive experience in public affairs, issues management and crisis management. During his 16 years at Burson-Marsteller and BKSH & Associates (now Prime Policy Group), Kyte has provided crisis and issues management services to clients involved in facility siting, power plant operations and community relations, chemical contamination of land and waterways, and hazardous and nuclear materials and waste management. Clients include ABB, Albemarle Corporation, Benteler Steel, Chemtura, Dow Chemical, Entergy, First Solar, Kaiser Aluminum, Los Alamos National Labs, ONEOK, PG&E, Safety-Kleen, Waste Management (WMX) and Waste Control Specialists. Kyte previously practiced environmental and energy law and regulation in Washington, D.C., specializing in congressional and government agency affairs and media strategy.
Kyte also will discuss the Harold Burson Summer Internship Program, which is a paid internship at one of U.S. Burson-Marsteller offices, including Dallas, Austin, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Boston and Los Angeles. During the internship, students work closely with industry leaders to gain experience in public relations encompassing everything from media relations and research to digital communications and grassroots campaigns. Burson-Marsteller, established in 1953, provides clients with strategic thinking and program execution across a full range of public relations, public affairs, reputation and crisis management, advertising and digital strategies.
