El Día de los Muertos to Be Celebrated Today

Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha Inc., Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity Inc., League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund will celebrate Día de Los Muertos Festival with the building of a tribute altar and a tamale sale.

El Día de los Muertos is a unique cultural event from Latin America that respectfully honors those who have passed away. It is a rich tradition that helps the new generations to remember, celebrate, and learn about the lives of their ancestors.

A traditional Día de los Muertos altar will be built. The celebration will start at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1 and will continue throughout the day. Everyone is welcome to place items (pictures, favorite food, drinks, etc.) on the altar in honor of their deceased beloved ones.

"Come learn more about this holiday that is celebrated throughout all of Latin America," Cecilia Grossberger said.

The tamale sale will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1-2 in the Arkansas Union Mall. Only cash payment is accepted.

Menu items include spicy chicken tamales, cheese with chile poblano tamales, and chicken and green salsa tamales.
