Wi-Fi Expansion Celebrated During Tech Week

During the first-annual Tech Week earlier this month, the University of Arkansas celebrated the recent completion of a major Wi-Fi expansion. Improving wireless access has been a top priority in the Achieve IT: Excellence in Technology initiative.

Network Everywhere, one of the first Achieve IT projects, is making it easier for students, faculty and staff to stay connected as they move from building to building. During the first phase of the project, 996 new wireless access points were installed in 30 academic buildings to create greater coverage and capacity.

"Wi-Fi represents the primary, and in many cases, the only way the campus community accesses the internet," Elon Turner, director of infrastructure systems, said. "It's a main focus of my team to continuously improve the coverage, performance and overall Wi-Fi experience for the nearly 30,000 unique connections seen each week."

The second phase of Network Everywhere is coming soon to expand Wi-Fi coverage to more buildings, making it easier to keep mobile devices online anywhere on campus.
