A group of dedicated students gave up their spring break to help better the lives of 1,093 patients.

Over spring break, 27 University of Arkansas students had the privilege of spending spring break in Northern Nicaragua, volunteering in rural communities in need of medical and dental services.

As part of the Global Medical/Dental Brigade campus organization, these motivated students spent time traveling to different rural communities in Nicaragua working with local, U.S. and foreign health professionals to provide free medical care to patients.

"For most of the residents we served, this was the only opportunity for medical care they have all year," said junior Justin Miles, president of Global Medical/Dental Brigades at the University of Arkansas. "It's very humbling to have been able to provide medical attention to those that would not necessarily receive it if it wasn't for organizations like Global Brigades."
