Students Earn Service Awards

The Center for Community Engagement and the Volunteer Action Center at the University of Arkansas are pleased to announce this year's recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Award and the Chancellor's Community Service Award. These awards recognize students who spend substantial time during the school year giving back to their community through volunteer opportunities. In total, 79 students received the Presidential Award and 101 students received the Chancellor's Award. The combined hours total 18,778 hours and an economic impact of $442,410.

The President's Volunteer Service Award was started in 2003 by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation as a way to show gratitude and acknowledgement toward those who engage in volunteer service. The award recognizes the impact that individuals make in their community and inspires others to follow in their footsteps. To qualify for this award, students must volunteer a minimum of 100 hours during the school year to participating organizations.

The Chancellor's Community Service Award was created last year in honor of the Chancellor to recognize students who volunteer 50-99 hours during the school year. This award was created to recognize an additional group of students who are engaged with volunteering and giving back to their community.

The Volunteer Action Center was created in 2005 in order to organize student volunteer efforts and programs on campus and be the contact point for nonprofit organizations within Northwest Arkansas. The volunteer board seeks to engage and inspire students through volunteer experiences for the enhancement of their overall education while providing awareness, support, and access to service opportunities. For more information on volunteer opportunities, register with the Volunteer Action Center at uark.givepulse.com and search for a volunteer opportunity that fits with your interests and availability. Alternatively, you can call 479-575-4365 or vac@uark.edu to find assistance with selecting a volunteer opportunity for yourself or a group.
