U of A Students to Participate in Study Abroad Reciprocal Exchange Programs

Several University of Arkansas students are planning to spend time abroad as exchange students at partner institutions

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is preparing to send 27 students abroad for reciprocal exchange experiences at partner universities across the globe.

The outbound U of A students are exchanged for incoming students from the partner institutions. Both the outgoing and incoming students will spend one semester or an academic year at the host university.

Caroline Halford, a U of A junior studying elementary education, will spend the upcoming fall semester at the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia. The prospect of cultural immersion and the ability to learn from locals attracted her to the study abroad opportunity.

"I've always loved exploring and learning through hands-on experiences, and going abroad will force me to do that while stepping way outside my comfort zone," she said. "It's a challenge I'm really excited for."

Laura Moix, assistant director of exchange, communication and diversity in the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange, said study abroad experiences are a great way for our students to learn in new environments, challenge themselves socially and gain an edge in the job market. However, study abroad programs are beneficial for the university and the state as well.

"Study abroad allows students to serve as wonderful ambassadors for the university and the state of Arkansas, which increases mutual understanding between our students and the people they meet abroad," Moix said.

Students from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, Sam M. Walton College of Business Administration, Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences, College of Education and Health Professions and College of Engineering are participating in exchange programs. They will be studying at partner universities in Australia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Spain and Sweden.
