The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas is offering a jewel and gemstone identification clinic this Saturday at 1 E. Center St. in Fayetteville.

Tom Paradise, professor of geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and a certified gemologist, is teaching a two-day course that culminates in the public event from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2. The cost is $10 per item.

Paradise will identify the period, materials, makers and function of the jewels and gemstones. Evaluations will not be conducted for appraisal and insurance purposes but to identify and determine the materials and possible period of manufacture of pieces.
