Public Policy Alumnus to Join University of Cincinnati Faculty
Everrett Smith, director of assessment for the Division of Student Affairs, has been named an assistant professor of higher education at the University of Cincinnati. He will assume the position in the fall.
"I don't know if excited is a fair word to describe how I feel," Everrett said. "I am very much looking forward to joining the faculty at the University of Cincinnati and cannot wait for the opportunities that are ahead for me there."
Smith, a Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Award recipient, completed a Ph.D. in public policy with a specialization in higher education policy at the University of Arkansas in fall 2014. He also holds a master's degree in leadership and policy studies from the University of Memphis and completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at Middle Tennessee State University.
The recent graduate is looking forward to returning to the classroom in the fall, and he is especially excited about the content he will be teaching.
"What's really ideal about my new position is that I am able to teach to my research," he said. "My time at the University of Arkansas helped me discover how much I enjoy teaching in a college setting. It is a great reward working with students in the classroom and knowing that I can contribute to knowledge through my research."
Smith's research interests center on finance and fundraising, policy and governance and administrative challenges in higher education. His dissertation examined state funding for public research universities during billion dollar capital campaigns. Smith plans to continue his research at the University of Cincinnati.
While at the University of Arkansas, Smith had seven papers published in a variety of journals including Community College Journal of Research and Practice and Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice.
