The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees has approved a plan to add three new playing field sites. This project will help accommodate the growing student population and put the university on par with its peer institutions in the region.

University Recreation will be holding a student drop-in session from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Arkansas Union Living Room. The purpose of the drop-in session is to provide students an opportunity to provide feedback, as well as get information on the project.

The project includes three separate locations, totaling 106.64 acres near campus. The largest parcel at Cato Springs and Razorback Road, accommodates most of the programming including six flag football/soccer fields, four softball fields, three basketball courts, and four volleyball courts, along with parking and restrooms. The two smaller parcels, one located south of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on Indian Trail and one on Mount Comfort Road will be developed to accommodate three club sport fields and up to 12 tennis courts and parking.

"This is an exciting time for UREC as we look to greatly expand our intramural and club sports programming," said Jeremy Battjes, director of University Recreation.

"We look forward to hearing from the students and getting their input on this. This is their project."
