Tickets on Sale to Apparel Program 'Metal & Shine' Benefit Fashion Show

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Student designs and fashions will be the highlight of a public fashion show being presented by the apparel merchandising and product development program in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas.

Tickets are now on sale for the “Metal & Shine AMPD Benefit Fashion Show,” Wednesday, April 20, at the Fayetteville Town Center. A social hour begins at 6 p.m. with the show scheduled for 7 p.m.

Students in the spring semester Advanced Apparel Production class are making patterns, and designing and creating garments to be featured in the show.

“Our students experience the apparel production process from the initial design inspiration through the construction and marketing of their garments,” said instructor Stephanie Hubert. “This one project gives them insight into the decision-making process experienced by designers, patternmakers, financial teams, factories and more. They expand their vision of what it takes to get fashionable garments into the hands of consumers.”

Around 40 students are enrolled in the class, which is an advanced study of product development incorporating technology used in the fashion industry.

Proceeds from the show will help fund student study tours in the School of Human Environmental Science’s apparel program.

“The fashion show is a means for students to showcase their work in an environment that creates excitement not only for the audience, but for other students and members of the community as well,” said Kathy Smith, a clinical associate professor. “This year’s show has the added benefit of funding potential study tours for AMPD students and exemplifies the experiential component of the apparel merchandising and product development program.”

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door on April 20. UA student tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased in Room 205C of the Human Environmental Sciences Building on campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All checks should be made out to the University of Arkansas Foundation.

Sponsorships are also available. The Haute Couture level is $200, and includes four reserved seats and mention on run of show. The Couture level is $150, and includes two reserved seats and mention on run of show.
