MIT Professor of Economics to Speak About 'Charters Without Lotteries'

Parag Pathak, a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will speak at noon Friday, March 4, on the University of Arkansas campus. The lecture title is "Charters without Lotteries: Testing Takeovers in New Orleans and Boston."

The lecture is part of the Department of Education Reform Lecture Series and will take place in Room 343, Graduate Education Building.

Those planning to attend any of the lectures in the series are asked to RSVP on the Department of Education Reform's website before 1 p.m. the Wednesday preceding the lecture.

Pathak is a founding co-director of the NBER Working Group on Market Design and founder of MIT's School of Effectiveness and Inequality Initiative, a laboratory focused on education, human capital and income distribution. In 2013, he was selected to give the Shapely Lecture at GAMES2012 as a distinguished game theorist under age 40. He was appointed the mayor's chief technical advisor for Boston's student assignment plan. The International Monetary Fund listed him as one of 25 top economists under age 45 in 2014.

Pathak also studies K-12 education and urban economics. He has written studies on school reform, selective education and school choice. His research has been supported by research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, the Boston Foundation and the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy. Pathak has also served as an associate editor at the American Economic Review and Econometrica.
