Reminder: Arkansas Union Closed for Extended Period Starting Saturday

The Arkansas Union will close at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, and will not reopen to the public until 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11. The University of Arkansas will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24, to Monday, Jan. 4, during this period.

Construction crews will be replacing the main electrical switchgear that helps provide power to the entire building, and also replacing old electrical panels from the original construction of the Union. Because the inside of the Union will be a construction site, no one except construction workers will be allowed in the Union during the shutdown.

All offices will be available by normal phone and email channels while the University is open and some offices will have physical locations in other buildings:

  • The Arkansas Union Administrative Office will maintain normal functions working remotely during this time. There are no meetings or events scheduled in the Arkansas Union during the shutdown. Please contact our staff via individual email during this time.
  • Business Services staff members will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact staff via individual email.
  • Campus Card Office will relocate and operate during parts of the shutdown. Please visit their Card Office website, for location, hours, and contact information.
  • Career Development Center staff will be working remotely.
  • Center for Educational Access will temporary relocate to the CEA Testing Center, room 305 in the Stadium Drive Parking Deck. Please contact them at their main number, 479-575-3104 for assistance.
  • Chartwells Campus Dining locations in the Union are closed for the duration of the shutdown. Chartwells has temporarily relocated their offices to other buildings. Please see website for contact and dining information during this time. Chartwells anticipates re-opening Union Dining services by Tuesday, Jan. 12.
  • Computer Lab will not be open during the shutdown. Students requiring computer access are encouraged to visit Mullins Library. Support services provided from the walk-up IT Services Help Desk will be relocated to the Faculty Technology Center in the Gibson Annex and open during regular business hours.
  • The Copy and Ship Center has relocated to the Harmon Parking Garage in the retail location formerly known as The Parking Spot. Contact Mike Coleman at 479-575-6065 or arucopy@uark.edu.
  • The Departmental Copier Program has relocated to 116 Graham Street, in the Razorback Charter Bus Operations Office. Contact Tiffany for Service, Paper, Supplies at 479-575-6065 or tfarquh@uark.edu, or Penny at 479-575-5970 or bellard@uark.edu.
  • Union Hair Care will close for the duration of the shutdown, and will reopen for normal hours when the building reopens on Jan. 11.
  • KXUA radio station will stop broadcasting during the power outage. Broadcasting will resume with the restoration of power to the building, either Jan. 10 or 11. Over-the-Air broadcasting will resume with the restoration of power to the building, either Jan. 10 or 11.
  • The Mail Room has relocated to the Harmon Parking Garage in the retail location that was formerly known as The Parking Spot. Contact Doug Norwood at (479) 575 5649 or dwnorwo@uark.edu. Please note: the Mail Room will sort mail Dec. 30 and 31 and be open for departments to come pick up their mail, as normal operations during the holiday break in our temporary location. All Post Office Box mail will be handled through the temporary location, until they move back into the Union. Harmon Parking Deck does allow 20-minute free parking in the deck for business. Parking over 20 minutes will cost. Please refer to the Harmon Avenue Parking page for information.
  • Multicultural Center staff will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact them via email during this time.
  • New Student & Family Programs staff will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact them via individual email.
  • Off Campus Connections staff will be monitoring occ@uark.edu and responding to inquiries during business hours. OCC staff will be working remotely during the shutdown.
  • Passport Services has relocated to Harmon Parking Garage in the retail location that was formerly known as The Parking Spot. Contact Doug Norwood at 479-575-5649 or dwnorwo@uark.edu.
  • The Post Office has relocated to Harmon Parking Garage in the retail location that was formerly known as The Parking Spot. Contact John Clark at 479-575-2650 or dwnorwo@uark.edu.
  • Student Technology Center will be closed during the shutdown. Certain checkout services are being relocated to Mullins Library during this time. Please contact Donnie Blagg for details.
  • Offices for Student Activities and Student Government will be closed, and professional staff will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact staff via individual email for assistance.
  • Treasurer's Office will relocate and remain open during the shutdown. The Treasurer's Office is relocating to Faulkner 129, an office near the back corner entrance to the building. Walk-ins are welcome during normal business hours on days the university is open. Treasurer’s Office Cashiering will be available at Parking and Transit in the Administrative Services Building. Student payments and departmental receipting will be handled at that location.
  • UREC Fitness Center will be closed during the shutdown. Patrons are asked to use the services offered in the HPER building during this time.
  • Volunteer Action Center staff will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact them via email.
  • Veterans' Resource & Information Center (VRIC) staff will work remotely during the shutdown. Please contact them via individual email for questions and needs during this time.
