U of A Response to the Creation of 'White Student Union' Facebook Page

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On Monday, Nov. 24, University of Arkansas administrators became aware of a Facebook page identified as “University of Arkansas White Student Union.” An investigation determined that this page is not affiliated with the University of Arkansas and that this group is not a registered student organization at the U of A.

The university could find no evidence that anyone involved in producing the page is associated with the U of A. Similar pages have appeared claiming to be affiliated with other universities across the country, indicating that this may be part of some kind of coordinated effort.

The University of Arkansas recognizes that everyone has a constitutional right to express ideas and opinions. However, this particular page is misrepresenting its connection to the U of A by violating the university’s trademarked names and images. The UA Office of General Counsel has lodged complaints with Facebook regarding unauthorized use of trademarks.

The U of A has also posted directly to this page, indicating that this group is not associated or affiliated with the U of A in any way. We will also continue to monitor the situation.
