Come Join Muslima of UARK for Eid al-Adha on Nov. 12
Thomas R. Paradise

Muslima of UARK will host an Eid al-Adha celebration in Giffels Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. The event is free to all U of A students. A fun-filled and exciting celebration of the Islamic holiday will present a brief presentation discussing the undertaking of Hajj and different traditions of celebrating the holiday that follows, as well as cultural performances by several international students from Morocco, Bangladesh, and Saudi Arabia. We will also have fun games and trivia!

Since part of the goal is to engage with community, attendees are encouraged to bring any kind of canned food. This will be distributed to the needy of Fayetteville. Students interested in gaining insight on the teachings of Islam, international culture, or Middle Eastern studies are especially encouraged to attend. No ticket is needed; attendance is on a first-come first-served basis.

Eid al-Adha, meaning Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second of two religious holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide each year. This festival commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son to God. This festival also marks the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which Muslims are required to make at least once in their lives.

This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently enrolled University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, students who pay the student activities fee. For questions about the event or for accommodations due to disability please contact Tri Murniati, tmurniat@uark.edu, 479-799-8814.
