Vitter Withdraws From Chancellor Consideration

On Monday, the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees met in executive session to discuss the candidates for chancellor at the Fayetteville campus. One of the candidates, Jeffrey S. Vitter, formally withdrew his name from consideration for the chancellor position.

National news accounts Monday indicated the Mississippi College Board would name Vitter as its top choice to become chancellor of the University of Mississippi.

President Don Bobbitt of the University of Arkansas System said, "I feel very thankful that our search committee and everyone involved brought forth three extremely accomplished and exceptional candidates for consideration. They are all very highly thought of in higher education, and we knew going in that there are a lot of other places that would love to have any one of them on their campuses. You hate to lose one at this stage in the process, but that’s part of it. I wish Dr. Vitter the best of luck and am grateful for his time and initial interest in the UA chancellor position."
