Ruben Martin to Speak to Logistics of Capitalism Class
Ruben Martin III
Ruben S. Martin III of Longview, Texas, president and chief executive officer of Martin Resource Management Corp., will speak to the Logistics of Capitalism class at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas on Oct. 22.
Martin's talk, which will be at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development, is free and open to the public. Instructors for the Logistics of Capitalism class are Wes Kemp, executive in residence, and Jason Arentz of the supply chain management department.
Martin is a member of the board of directors of the firm's general partner, Martin Midstream GP LLC. He has served in each of those capacities since 2002, after serving as president of Martin Resource Management since 1981 and holding various positions within the company since 1974.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from the University of Arkansas.
Martin also serves as president of Paula Martin Jones Charities Inc., an organization formed in honor of his sister who passed away in 1990. Paula Martin Jones Charities provides facilities for programs such as the Longview Child Development Center, Boys and Girls Club of Longview, Child Advocacy Center and Presbyterian Children Homes and Services. The charity also sponsors East Texas Lightnin', the Longview delegation of the Special Olympics. Martin has served on many boards throughout Texas, including serving on the board of directors of Good Shepherd Medical Center, Texas Association of Business, Sabine River Authority and Trinity School of Texas. He also is founder of East Texans Against Lawsuit Abuse and currently serves as its president.
In 2004, Martin's mother, Margaret Gerig Martin, donated $100,000 to create a doctoral fellowship to recruit highly qualified doctoral candidates to Walton College. Martin's father, R.S. Martin, also attended the University of Arkansas and was involved in the Kappa Sigma fraternity and played for the Razorback Band. Amy Farmer, a Walton College economics professor, holds the Margaret Gerig & R.S. Martin Jr. Chair in Business.
