Matthew T. Feldner, professor in the clinical psychology program in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, has been named director of the Psychological Clinic in the Department of Psychological Science.

Former chair of the department, Denise Beike, appointed Feldner to the role of clinic director. "Dr. Feldner is both an outstanding scholar and an outstanding clinician. We are grateful that he is willing to devote his time and energy to serve as the director of our Psychological Clinic," said Beike.

Feldner joined the Department of Psychological Science in 2005. He received his master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from West Virginia University in 2001 and the University of Vermont in 2005, respectively. He completed his clinical internship at Dartmouth Medical School in a specialized track focused on posttraumatic stress disorder. In addition to his work at the University of Arkansas, he is an adjunct professor at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research.

Feldner teaches the graduate level Introduction to Clinical Science and Introduction to Clinical Practice courses. He also is the director of the Intervention Sciences Laboratory, which explores the development, prevention, and treatment of panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and the common overlap between drug use and these conditions. Feldner's laboratory research has received extramural funding from the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, National Institutes of Health, the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Defense.

The Psychological Clinic is the training and research facility for the Department of Psychological Science's Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Program. The clinic provides a variety of services to the Northwest Arkansas community as well as students at the University of Arkansas. Such services include: individual psychotherapy, couple/marital counseling, family therapy, intellectual, developmental, or educational testing, and personality and psychosocial assessment. The Psychological Clinic also works with various legal and health care service providers, private physicians, schools, and community organizations in Northwest Arkansas. With regards to taking over this position, Feldner said he is "excited to continue coordinating state-of-the-art, evidence-based psychological services provided to people in the Northwest Arkansas community."
